SOAS University of London, London
On Wednesday 18 March, we’re welcoming SOAS alumnus Ilyas Khan back to campus to launch Global Paths, a new alumni speaker series exploring the many directions a SOAS degree can take you.
Ilyas studied South Asian Studies at SOAS before building a career in technology and entrepreneurship. After two decades working in Hong Kong, where he founded his first tech company, he returned to the UK and established Cambridge Quantum in 2014. The company later merged with Honeywell Quantum Solutions to create Quantinuum, now the world’s largest integrated quantum computing firm.
Along the way, he has chaired the Stephen Hawking Foundation, helped support early-stage science start-ups at Cambridge, and played a major role in shaping one of the world’s leading quantum computing companies.
But the part of his story we love most? He’s now back at SOAS again - this time as a PhD student in the Music Department, researching the music of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
This session is for final-year students thinking about what comes next. Join us to hear how SOAS skills translate into real-world careers, ask questions about navigating the job market, and learn from someone whose path has taken him from SOAS lecture theatres to the forefront of quantum computing and back again.
Date: Wednesday 18 March
Time: 1.30pm – 2.30pm
Venue: Gallery Lecture Theatre
