Academy Award-nominated Russian director Sergei Bodrov brings his vision of life and danger on the 13th-century Mongolian steppe, inspired by The Secret History of the Mongols. The film was a critical and commercial success, though it stirred notable controversy in Mongolia for its deviations from the aforementioned historical source.
Shot in China, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan, Mongol was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 80th Academy Awards.
